Yasmin's story

Learning from talented colleagues in London and Zurich

Yasmin began her career at Rothschild & Co as a Finance Apprentice in Wealth Management in London. Four years later, she is now a Legal Entity Controller in Wealth and Asset Management, based in our Zurich office.

“I was introduced to Rothschild & Co through the ‘Investment 20/20’ scheme, which aims to introduce participants to the financial world. I met apprentices, as well as other people within the London Wealth and Asset Management business, gaining an insight into life here.

When you join as an Apprentice, you become part of a strong community”

I would recommend Apprenticeships to anyone who’s considering a career in financial services. I spent six months gaining experience in four different teams; first with the Wealth Management Finance team, then the Investment team, a Client team, and lastly the Group Finance team. It was great to build an understanding of how each of the teams collaborate, while also building a strong network across the other businesses.

When you join as an Apprentice, you become part of a strong community. There were many other former apprentices in the company, and it was fantastic to see their career trajectory and learn from them.

Today, my role is split equally between Procurement and Finance. From a Finance perspective, although I am based in Zurich, I oversee accounting for two of our subsidiaries in two other countries, which has been great exposure for me.

I work with a great global team, which has been extremely stimulating as we push to grow our presence in different regions.

My colleagues have such differing, vast experience, which is fantastic to learn from”

Throughout 2022, I worked closely with the finance team in Zurich and travelled there every few months, which is when the opportunity to take up a secondment arose. Simultaneously, a new position opened up, and as I’m currently studying for my Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification, I thought this would be a beneficial opportunity for obtaining my qualification, as well as for my career trajectory.

The office in Zurich is very international, and everyone has such differing, vast experience, which is fantastic to learn from. There is also a lake right by the office, where people eat lunch and even go swimming in the summer. Colleagues go for runs together, take walks – it feels like quite a different way of life.

My advice to someone who is considering joining Rothschild & Co, is that showing willingness to learn and having the right attitude will help you go far. Build as many connections as you can - your colleagues are always willing to give you their time. From these conversations, you can also craft your career journey as you learn what interests you.”
