Rothschild & Co further develops GP Solutions business with Nicolas Lanel

GA Press release 25 Mar

Rothschild & Co is pleased to announce that Nicolas Lanel will join the Group to support the firm’s Private Capital business development throughout Europe with the origination and execution of GP-led transactions, particularly continuation vehicles.

Nicolas Lanel brings more than 30 years of experience in investment banking, the last 18 of which are closely associated with the emergence of the GP-led secondary space. Nicolas Lanel established and led the broader European secondary advisory franchises at UBS and Evercore, both of which achieved global leadership positions under his tenure, before founding Flow Advisors. He started his career with Paribas in Toronto, following which he spent close to ten years as an M&A advisor with Deutsche Bank in London and New York.

Commenting on the appointment, Chris Hawley, Global Head of Private Capital at Rothschild & Co, said: “The onboarding of Nicolas Lanel is part of Rothschild & Co’s continued development of our GP Solutions team which has quickly risen to prominence in Europe, having raised in excess of €3.5bn across 13 transactions in 2023 and 2024.”

Nicolas Lanel observed: “Continuation funds have rapidly become a mainstream exit route for PE assets. The successful execution of these transactions requires an understanding of GP-led structures, combined with the ability to articulate a compelling equity story on the underlying assets. In this context, it is key to deliver a dual sector and secondary expertise to clients in an integrated manner. Given Rothschild & Co’s unmatched depth of relationships with the PE sponsor community, its widely recognised sector expertise, its extensive access to alternative pools of capital and its expanding presence in the secondary advisory space, I am convinced that the firm offers the best platform to capitalise on these trends.”
