Rothschild & Co hires Alex Cartel as Managing Director and Head of Global Advisory, Australia

Rothschild & Co announced today that Alex Cartel will join the firm as Managing Director and Head of Global Advisory, Australia. This senior hire strengthens and enhances the firms’ M&A and strategic advisory practice in Australia.

Mr. Cartel is one of Australia’s most experienced and trusted M&A and strategic advisors. Over his 25-year career, he has advised many of Australia’s largest companies on their most significant transactions, including BHP’s successful A$9.6 billion acquisition of Oz Minerals and Santos’ A$22bn merger with Oil Search.

With his extensive experience, Mr Cartel will further enhance Rothschild & Co’s public M&A and strategic advisory capabilities in Australia. Working closely with the firm's Managing Directors, he will play a key role in continuing to drive Rothschild & Co.'s strategic ambitions in the Australian market.

He will report into Marshall Baillieu, Partner and CEO of Rothschild & Co. Australia.

Mr Cartel joins Rothschild & Co. from Citi, where he held several senior leadership roles including Managing Director, Head of Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory. Prior to this he was Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking Coverage at Deutsche Bank Australia.

Mr. Cartel is also currently the President of the Australia Takeovers Panel, a position he has held since 2019.
