Charles Martin joins Rothschild & Co as Senior Adviser
Rothschild & Co is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Martin as a Senior Adviser to the firm, based in the UK. Charles will provide strategic counsel, and assist in providing advice to clients across our Global Advisory and Wealth Management divisions.
Charles has over 37 years’ experience as a M&A lawyer with Macfarlanes, having spent the last 12 years as the firm’s Senior Partner. He will bring with him extensive international expertise in providing strategic counsel to clients on public company M&A, Private Equity and Family Office issues.

Charles has worked principally in M&A and Private Equity, acting for sponsors, corporates and family offices. He is rated in the top tiers of the most highly recommended M&A and Private Equity lawyers in the UK by the leading directories. Clients look to him particularly for strategic counsel and tactical input on a wide variety of legal matters, including M&A, Litigation and Family Office issues. Much of his work is cross-border. He is an officer of, and actively involved in the International Bar Association.
He was Senior Partner of Macfarlanes from 2008 to 2020 when he stepped down to focus on client work and relationships, having worked for many of the firm’s major clients, including leading the team advising Verizon Communications Inc. on its acquisition of Vodafone’s interest in Verizon Wireless for US$130bn. He will continue to serve as a Senior Adviser to Macfarlanes.
Charles qualified as a solicitor in 1985, having graduated from Bristol University in 1982. He is a trustee of the 29th May 1961 Charity, the Visitors’ Art Foundation, Outside In and Pallant House Gallery, and is actively involved in supporting a number of other charities.
