Our history in the Nordic region
Our relationship with the Nordic region is almost as old as our business itself. Mayer Amschel Rothschild (1744-1812), founder of the Rothschild business in Frankfurt contracted a loan to the Danish court in 1803, and subsequent loans in 1808 and 1816. From 1826, the Paris and Frankfurt Rothschild banking houses conducted business activity with companies in Sweden. In the 1870s, the Frankfurt Rothschilds issued loans to Finland, in part to finance the country’s railways.
