Mitul's story

Mitul started his career at Rothschild & Co as an Intern in the Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) team of our Global Advisory business. 13 years later, he is now a Director in the same team, based in our London office.

“I work on multiple projects within the TMT space, focusing on technology and IT services as well as telecoms and digital infrastructure. It is a very broad sector, which is why I initially chose to join the team. Technology also embeds itself into a number of other sectors, which means I also work with other teams fairly often, such as Infrastructure.

In 2019, Rothschild & Co was looking to grow its presence in technology on the USA’s west coast. It was at this time that the Technology team in our LA office approached me as they were looking for someone at my level with experience in technology, so I jumped at the chance.

Everyone in London was extremely supportive, understanding what a unique and exciting opportunity it was. Similarly, the team in LA made the move as seamless as possible.

Some of the differences between London and LA were cultural, and whilst the core of the job is the same, the US market works differently, so I had to adapt to certain regulations and market standards. It has enabled me to use best practices which offer more flexibility and can result in better outcomes for both us and the client.

My advice to new joiners at Rothschild & Co is to try to understand the ‘why’ behind every task. It is important to look beyond the spreadsheet or presentation slides to grasp the bigger picture — the rationale, the client’s objectives — and how your task fits in. Keeping this in mind will help you stay focused on what the task is ultimately supporting: giving the right advice to the client.

A fun fact about me is that I won the prime-time Saturday night TV show, The 1% Club! To prepare, I went back and watched every episode, and even downloaded the app. It was such a surreal experience."
