The Merchant Banking arm of the Rothschild & Co Group is looking for a Business Analyst to join the Financial Planning & Analysis team based in London.

Merchant Banking (MB) is the alternative investments’ arm of the Rothschild & Co group which manages capital in private equity and private debt for the firm and third parties. Description of the role

The Business Analyst will operate within the Financial Planning & Analysis area of the MB Finance 
team to support the preparation of the MB management accounts with a main focus on P&L, cash flows, AuM and Group investment positions in the MB funds. He/she will also support the divisional planning, budgeting and forecasting processes.

The main responsibilities will include:

Reviewing and analysing the financial accounts of the MB entities as well as the management accounts and financial reports;
• Assisting in the preparation of MB multi-year plans, budgets and forecasts with a specific 
focus on ensuring that the data infrastructure to complete these activities is reliable and  flexible;
• Preparing analysis and presentations for the division’s Senior Management;
• Working closely with the teams supporting the different investment strategies within  MB to ensure a thorough understanding of the portfolio’s performance;
• Pro-actively anticipating Senior Management’s needs and looking for ways to improve  the quality of reports and analysis;
• Responding to Group and MB Investor Relations’ queries, as well as investors’ queries;
• Maintain excel financial models for funds and investment vehicles;
• Provide information to assist business development initiatives and investment transactions.

Education, experience, attitude

• University degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics or Engineering (Master’s degree);
• Previous internship experience in financial modelling carried out at a Transaction Services or a Consulting firm would be highly beneficial;
• Previous internship experience in the alternative asset management industry (private equity and private debt) would be a plus, but is not mandatory;
• Advanced working knowledge of Excel and Powerpoint is a must-have;
• The proven ability to create and maintain complex calculation models in Excel will  represent a strong advantage in the selection process;
• Previous modelling experience in a fund environment such as Waterfall modelling would be a plus.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment where priorities can be re-arranged on short notice;
• Very accurate and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of intellectual curiosity;
• Willing to embrace new projects and challenges that are originated by the rapid growth of the MB division;
• Articulate oral and written communication skills;
• The candidate must be fluent in English. Working knowledge of French would represent an asset.
